## Summary

Sicca describes dryness of the eyes and mouth, potentially related to medicines, gland disorders or autoimmune disease. It is not generalized dehydration and alone neither proves nor excludes Sjogren disease.

## الأسباب

قد تؤثر أدوية متعددة أو العلاج الإشعاعي للرأس والرقبة أو أمراض مثل السكري وشوغرن. وقد يساهم تبخر الدموع أو اضطراب الجفون في جفاف العين.

## الأعراض

تشمل الأعراض إحساس الرمل أو الحرقة وتشوشًا متقلبًا بالرؤية، وفمًا لزجًا وصعوبة بلع الطعام الجاف أو تغير التذوق وتكرر تسوس الأسنان.

## عوامل الخطر

تزداد الأعراض مع تعدد الأدوية وبعض الأمراض والعلاج الإشعاعي، وقد تزيد البيئة الجافة والشاشات الانزعاج. لا توقف علاجًا موصوفًا دون مراجعة بديل مناسب.

## التشخيص

تُراجع الأدوية والأعراض ويُفحص الفم والعين وتُقاس الدموع أو اللعاب عند الحاجة. إذا اشتُبه بشوغرن تُختار فحوص مناعية أو غدية؛ لا يكفي جسم مضاد منفرد للتشخيص.

## العلاج

قد تساعد دموع صناعية وبدائل لعاب وعلاج السبب والعناية بالأسنان. أدوية تنشيط اللعاب أو قطرات مضادة للالتهاب تحتاج وصفًا يناسب الحالة وموانع الاستعمال.

## المضاعفات

قد يحدث تسوس أو فطريات فموية أو أذية سطح العين وصعوبة تغذية. المضاعفات الجهازية تعتمد على السبب؛ لا تُنسب كل مخاطر شوغرن إلى أي جفاف.

## الوقاية

استخدم معجون فلورايد وراجع طبيب الأسنان، وتجنب التدخين ومهيجات العين. قد تساعد رشفات الماء والعلكة الخالية من السكر إذا كان استخدامها آمنًا لك.

## متى تراجع الطبيب؟

ألم عين واضح أو حساسية شديدة للضوء أو تراجع رؤية يحتاج تقييمًا عاجلًا. راجع الطبيب أيضًا مع صعوبة بلع متفاقمة أو تورم غدد مستمر.

Tears and saliva protect the eye surface and teeth and support speech and swallowing. Persistent dryness needs cause assessment rather than water alone or dismissal as normal aging.

## Causes

Many medicines, head and neck radiation, diabetes or Sjogren disease may contribute. Tear evaporation or eyelid dysfunction can also cause dry-eye symptoms.

## Symptoms

Symptoms include grittiness, burning, fluctuating blurred vision, a sticky mouth, difficulty swallowing dry food, altered taste and recurrent dental decay.

## Risk factors

Multiple medicines, certain illnesses and radiation increase risk. Dry surroundings or prolonged screen use may worsen discomfort. Do not stop prescribed treatment without reviewing alternatives.

## Diagnosis

Assessment reviews medicines and examines the mouth and eyes, with tear or saliva tests when needed. Suspected Sjogren disease may require immune or gland testing; one antibody cannot diagnose it alone.

## Treatment

Artificial tears, saliva substitutes, cause-specific care and dental prevention may help. Saliva-stimulating medicines or anti-inflammatory eye drops require individualized prescribing and contraindication review.

## Complications

Dryness can lead to decay, oral fungal infections, eye-surface damage or nutritional difficulties. Systemic risks depend on the cause; Sjogren complications do not apply to every dry mouth.

## Prevention

Use fluoride toothpaste, attend dental checks and avoid tobacco and eye irritants. Sips of water and sugar-free gum may help when safe for you.

## When to seek care

Significant eye pain, marked light sensitivity or reduced vision needs urgent eye assessment. Worsening swallowing difficulty or persistent gland swelling also warrants medical review.
