## Short answer

Safety depends on the active medicine, strength, age, weight and reason for use. A clinician may recommend paracetamol suppositories when oral medicine is difficult, but they are not automatically suitable for every child. Avoid duplicating the same medicine through a suppository and liquid.

## Detailed answer

### Check the product first

Read the active ingredient, strength and interval. Use the child-specific product according to its leaflet or a clear prescription. Do not infer a dose from suppository size or an older sibling’s dose. Record administration times for every caregiver.

### Suppositories are not interchangeable

A fever medicine differs from a constipation treatment. Rectal delivery does not remove contraindications or side effects. Ask about alternatives with diarrhoea, rectal bleeding or difficulty administering it; do not automatically repeat a dose if the suppository comes out.

### When fever medicine is not enough

Fever in a baby under three months, breathing difficulty or marked lethargy needs urgent assessment. If too much paracetamol was given, or the total is uncertain, seek immediate medical advice even if the child appears well and take the packets with you.
