### Before choosing a balloon

Discuss obesity severity, reflux, stomach conditions, previous surgery, pregnancy, medicines and alternatives. Ask for the device name, follow-up and removal plan, and full cost. Do not assume every balloon stays for six months or is managed identically.

### Expected discomfort and complications

Nausea, vomiting and pain may occur, especially initially, and early removal may be necessary. Less common problems include ulceration, obstruction or perforation. Excess inflation and pancreatitis have been reported with some liquid-filled balloons.

### Do not delay review

Severe abdominal pain or pain extending to the back, increasing distension, persistent vomiting or inability to drink needs urgent assessment. Keep follow-up appointments and never retain a device beyond its specified duration even if weight loss continues.
