## Short answer

Lower-left abdominal pain can relate to constipation, bowel disorders or diverticulitis, with urinary or ovarian causes also possible. Location does not establish one diagnosis, and diverticulitis is not confined to a fixed age. Persistent or worsening pain warrants assessment.

## Detailed answer

### Which associated symptoms matter?

Report fever, bowel changes, blood or mucus, urinary burning and menstrual associations. Constant pain with fever may suggest inflammation, but diverticular symptoms overlap with other conditions and cannot be diagnosed from a short description.

### Gynaecological causes can be urgent

Sudden sharp pain with nausea may require ovarian assessment. Possible pregnancy means ectopic pregnancy must be considered; pain with bleeding, marked dizziness or fainting requires urgent care.

### Treat according to the cause

Do not start antibiotics or strong laxatives for every left-sided pain. Severe pain, persistent vomiting or distension with inability to pass stool or gas needs emergency assessment. Examination guides tests and imaging without assuming irritable bowel syndrome.
