## Short answer

Sex is usually safe in an uncomplicated pregnancy when comfortable and consensual. Bleeding, ruptured membranes or particular complications may require avoidance. A history of premature birth alone does not define one rule for everyone; discuss your situation with maternity care.

## Detailed answer

### Comfort and desire can change

Nausea, tiredness and a growing abdomen can affect desire and comfortable positions. Stop if it hurts. Less interest does not itself mean there is a relationship or pregnancy problem.

### Clarify any restriction

For placental problems, bleeding or preterm-birth risk, ask exactly which activities to avoid, for how long and when to review the advice. Avoid intercourse after waters break because of infection risk.

### Seek advice for concerning symptoms

Brief cramping may occur, but persistent or severe pain, bleeding or leaking fluid needs assessment. Heavy bleeding or fainting is an emergency. Do not assume all bleeding after intercourse is harmless.
