## Short answer

## Detailed answer

### When might treatment help?

Repair may be discussed for a palpable varicocele with infertility and abnormal semen findings. Fertility surgery is generally not recommended for a varicocele found only on imaging. Absence of sperm requires a separate specialist discussion.

### Improvement is not guaranteed pregnancy

Semen measures may improve without guaranteeing conception. Partner fertility, available time and alternatives matter. A specialist explains surgery, embolisation or observation and the risks of each option.

### Do not label every change a varicocele

A new lump, increasing pain or clear testicular size change needs examination. Sudden severe testicular pain is urgent; do not wait for a routine varicocele appointment. Testicular growth also matters when assessing adolescents.
