## Laryngoscopy and vocal cord examination

Laryngoscopy examines the voice box and vocal cords when assessing voice, swallowing or other symptoms. Methods include a flexible scope and direct examination under anaesthesia.

A flexible scope may pass through the nose while you are awake, with local numbing when appropriate. Direct examination may allow a biopsy or another intervention.
