Do veneers, crowns and dental implants last a lifetime?

Quick answer

There is no guaranteed lifespan for every person. Veneers, crowns and implants serve different purposes and have different risks; maintenance, repair or replacement may be needed.

Estimates are not expiry dates

Longevity varies with material, bite, grinding, gum health and cleaning. A crown supported by an implant may need replacement even when the implant remains stable.

Ongoing care

Follow the cleaning and examination plan and report looseness, fractures, pain or gum swelling. Implants can develop complications or fail, and restorations do not prevent disease in surrounding tissues. Ask for an explanation of maintenance and potential repair costs before treatment.
