Should I choose glasses or contact lenses for vision correction?

Quick answer

Glasses and contact lenses can correct several refractive errors. Choice depends on examination, comfort and daily activities. Glasses are simpler to care for, while contacts require a prescription, fitting, hygiene and adherence to reduce corneal infection risk.

Examination comes first

A glasses prescription alone does not determine the right contact lens. Fit, eye-surface health, dryness and tolerance matter. Glasses and contacts can be used at different times under an appropriate plan; they need not be mutually exclusive choices.

Care is part of suitability

Contacts require clean, dry hands and the recommended replacement and cleaning routine. Daily disposable lenses must not be reused, and coloured or prescription lenses should never be shared. If care requirements are difficult to follow, discuss a simpler correction option.

Symptoms change the decision

Remove lenses and seek assessment for pain, marked redness, light sensitivity or reduced vision. Do not keep wearing them to hide or tolerate a problem. Keep up-to-date backup glasses for times when lenses must be removed or temporarily avoided. Appropriate fitting and habits matter as much as appearance.
