How do I stop a nosebleed, and when do recurrent episodes need review?
Sit leaning forward and pinch the soft part of the nose just above the nostrils continuously for 10 to 15 minutes, breathing through the mouth. Do not tilt your head back. Recurrent episodes need review of causes and medicines even if each one stops.

When not to wait
Bleeding that persists despite correct pressure, is heavy, or causes weakness, dizziness or breathing difficulty needs urgent care. Bleeding after significant head or facial injury also needs urgent assessment. Do not delay help while repeatedly packing the nose yourself.
Why can it recur?
Dryness, rubbing, forceful blowing and some medicines are possible causes. High blood pressure does not explain every nosebleed. Mention anticoagulants, bruising and gum bleeding; do not stop prescribed treatment yourself.
After bleeding stops
Avoid picking, forceful blowing and strenuous activity immediately afterward, following the care instructions provided. Local care or cautery of an identified bleeding point may be offered. Not every episode needs antibiotics or extensive clotting tests.
