Can I receive vaccines while taking corticosteroids?
The decision depends on vaccine type and steroid dose, route and duration. Non-live vaccines can usually be given, although response may be reduced. Live vaccines may need postponement during immunosuppressive systemic treatment. Do not stop steroids to get vaccinated without advice.

Steroid treatments are not equivalent
Inhalers, skin creams, replacement doses and short courses are generally assessed differently from prolonged high systemic doses. Other immunosuppressants and the underlying condition also matter.
A guideline example, not self-clearance
CDC guidance commonly treats an adult dose equivalent to at least 20 mg prednisone daily for 14 days or more as significant immunosuppression. Live vaccines are generally delayed at least one month after stopping such treatment; individual timing can differ.
Bring the details
Provide medicine names, doses, dates and vaccination records. Vaccines against the same infection may have live and non-live formulations. The clinician checks the actual product and any upcoming travel or exposure risk.
