Medical Overview

Calpol is listed as Analgesic / NSAID containing Paracetamol. A pain reliever or anti-inflammatory medicine, depending on the active ingredient.

Calpol (pediatric paracetamol) — childhood’s first-line antipyretic: gentlest on small stomachs, from 2 months, dosed by WEIGHT (15mg/kg q4-6h, max 4 doses/day) with the pack’s own syringe (infant vs child concentrations differ!). Its whole danger is overdose — silently hepatotoxic, classically via hidden paracetamol in combo cold syrups; suspected overdose is an emergency even symptom-free (antidote works best within 8h).

Uses / Indications

  • Fever and pain in children
  • Mild to moderate pain, inflammation, or fever when appropriate.

Side Effects

  • Stomach irritation, nausea, or dizziness; some analgesics can increase bleeding or kidney risk.

Contraindications

  • Active ulcer or bleeding, analgesic allergy, or severe kidney/liver disease unless supervised.

Warnings

  • Avoid combining medicines from the same pain-reliever class without advice.

Drug Interactions

  • May interact with blood thinners, steroids, blood pressure medicines, and kidney-affecting drugs.

Patient Guidance

  • Use the shortest suitable duration.
