Macrobid (nitrofurantoin MR) is the global first-line bladder specialist — urine-concentrated, decades-low resistance, 5-day BID course with food. Useless (and unsafe) beyond the bladder: never for pyelonephritis, significant renal impairment, term pregnancy or G6PD deficiency. Dark urine is normal.
