Before you choose a dental clinic open evenings or Fridays
A dental emergency is anything that cannot wait for a routine appointment: severe pain that painkillers do not ease, swelling, a tooth broken or knocked out by a blow, or bleeding that will not stop. Mild sensitivity, a filling or crown that falls out without pain, or a small chip that does not cut your tongue can usually wait for an appointment in the next few days. This list shows dental clinics that have declared evening hours after 18:00 or a Friday shift; it is not a 24-hour emergency service, so call before you go to check they can see you now.
Whether you searched for “dentist open now”, “after-hours dentist”, “dentist open on Friday” or “emergency dentist near me”, this page lists the published profiles in Jordan and sorts them by distance from you.
What to check in a nearby dental clinic open evenings or Fridays
- Call before you go to confirm the clinic can see you now and that a dentist is actually there, not just reception staff, and ask how late it opens tonight or on Friday.
- Ask whether X-rays are taken on site, since many urgent problems such as a broken tooth, an abscess or an injury need an X-ray to diagnose.
- If the patient is a child, ask whether the clinic sees young children and treats their dental injuries.
- Ask whether your insurance is accepted for evening visits or payment is cash only, and check for parking, lighting and safe access at night.
When you need a dentist the same day
- Severe tooth pain that painkillers do not ease, or that keeps you awake.
- Swelling of the gum or face, or an abscess with pus or a foul taste, as long as it is not spreading towards the eye or neck and there is no fever.
- An adult tooth knocked out, pushed out of position or loosened after a fall or blow, where every minute counts for a knocked-out tooth.
- A broken tooth that hurts or has a sharp edge cutting your tongue or cheek, or a lost filling or crown with pain.
- Bleeding after an extraction that keeps oozing despite pressure, or severe pain starting two to four days after an extraction, which may be a dry socket.
What to do until you reach the clinic
- Knocked-out adult tooth: pick it up by the white crown and avoid touching the root, rinse it for a few seconds in milk or cold water if dirty without scrubbing, and push it back into the socket if you can, then bite on a clean cloth; otherwise keep it in milk or a little of your saliva in a cup and go to the clinic at once, as the first hour is critical. Never put a baby tooth back.
- Broken tooth: rinse your mouth with warm water, keep the broken piece in milk or water, hold a cold compress wrapped in cloth against the outside of the cheek, and cover a sharp edge with sugar-free gum or dental wax.
- Pain: take an over-the-counter painkiller as directed on the pack, and ask a pharmacist if you are pregnant, have a long-term condition or take other medicines. Never place aspirin or any tablet on the gum, as it burns the tissue, do not put heat on a swollen face, and keep your head raised on a pillow at night.
- Bleeding: fold clean gauze and bite on it firmly for 15 to 20 minutes without lifting it to check, and avoid rinsing, spitting hard, drinking through a straw and smoking for the rest of the day.
When to go to the emergency department instead
- Swelling spreading across the face until it closes the eye or reaches down the neck, or difficulty swallowing, breathing or opening your mouth: call 911 now rather than waiting for a clinic.
- High fever, chills or feeling very unwell together with tooth or jaw swelling: go to the emergency department.
- A jaw injury after which the teeth no longer meet as usual, severe pain on opening, numbness of the lip or chin, or a head injury with loss of consciousness, vomiting or confusion: call 911.
- Heavy bleeding that fills the mouth or does not ease after two rounds of 20 minutes of gauze pressure, especially if you take blood thinners or have a bleeding disorder.
