What is fat freezing, and how is it different from obesity treatment?

Quick answer

Fat freezing contours selected areas of subcutaneous fat in suitable people. It is not an obesity treatment or a replacement for weight management to improve health. Results take time and are not guaranteed; paradoxical fat enlargement can make the treated area larger instead.

What can it change?

It targets a local fat bulge, not internal organ-surrounding fat in the same way, and does not correct all loose skin. Discuss realistic goals, follow-up costs and possible alternatives if the result is unsuitable.

Before treatment

Disclose cold-sensitivity disorders, circulation or sensation problems, hernias and surgery in the area. Suitability depends on the device and your circumstances. Do not imitate treatment with ice or home tools, which can injure skin.

After treatment

Pain, swelling, bruising or numbness can occur. Persistent severe pain, skin injury or a firm enlarging bulge appearing weeks or months later needs assessment. Paradoxical enlargement may require surgery and should not automatically be treated with another freezing session.
