How we chose this list
Every matching clinic profile in this area was scored out of 100 for how complete and checkable its published information is, and the highest scores appear here in order. Featured placement does not change a profile's score, and the score does not measure treatment quality or outcomes — it tells you how much you can check before you call.

When do you need cardiac catheterization?
In cardiac catheterization, a cardiologist passes a thin, flexible tube (a catheter) through an artery in the wrist or groin up to the heart. With contrast dye and X-ray imaging, called coronary angiography, the team can see whether the coronary arteries are narrowed or blocked.
If a significant narrowing is found, the same session may sometimes move straight to treatment. In angioplasty, a small balloon widens the artery, and a stent is often placed to keep it open. Catheterization is also used to assess heart valves and to measure pressures inside the heart.
It is rarely the first test. Most people start with a cardiology consultation, an ECG, an echocardiogram and sometimes a stress test. The cardiologist then decides whether catheterization is needed. Common reasons a doctor may consider it include:
- chest pain or tightness on exertion that settles with rest
- an abnormal stress test or imaging that suggests reduced blood flow to the heart
- breathlessness or reduced exercise tolerance when heart disease is suspected
- known coronary artery disease with changing symptoms, or follow-up after a previous stent
- valve disease, such as aortic stenosis, where intervention options are being weighed
Book a cardiology visit if you notice:
- new chest discomfort with activity
- palpitations
- unexplained breathlessness
- ankle swelling
It is also worth booking a check if you have several risk factors, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking or a family history of early heart disease.
Warning signs that need emergency care
Do not wait for a clinic appointment if you have any of these. Call 911 straight away:
- chest pain, pressure or squeezing that lasts more than a few minutes or keeps coming back, especially if it spreads to the arm, jaw, neck or back
- chest discomfort with sweating, nausea, breathlessness, light-headedness or fainting
- sudden severe breathlessness
- sudden face drooping, arm weakness or difficulty speaking
After a catheterization, seek urgent help for any of the following:
- bleeding at the puncture site that does not stop with firm pressure
- swelling at the puncture site that grows quickly
- a hand or leg that turns cold, pale or numb
- any return of chest pain
How to choose among the clinics here
The nine profiles fall into two groups:
- hospital outpatient clinics, with several cardiologists alongside other specialties
- single-cardiologist clinics
These points are worth comparing:
- Published catheterization services. Some profiles describe catheterization as assessment and coordination. Others list diagnostic and interventional catheterization, angioplasty and stenting, or radial-access catheterization. Ask where the procedure itself would take place and who would perform it.
- Tests available beforehand. If you have not yet had an echocardiogram, a stress test or a Holter recording, choose a profile that publishes these. That clinic can complete the usual work-up before any decision on catheterization.
- Other conditions. If you also have diabetes, kidney disease or another long-term condition, a multi-specialty outpatient clinic may make coordination easier. Contrast dye and some medicines need extra care when kidney function is reduced.
- Continuity. In a single-doctor clinic you usually see the same cardiologist for consultation and follow-up. At larger clinics, book by physician name if you want to keep the same doctor.
- Hours and location. Most clinics open Saturday to Thursday. One branch also opens on Fridays, and some close early on Thursdays. Check the confirmed hours on each card.
- Insurance. Five profiles list Arab Orient Insurance. Whatever your insurer, confirm your own policy terms.
The order of the list reflects how complete each profile is, not treatment quality or outcomes.
What to expect at the first visit
The first appointment is usually a consultation, not the procedure. The cardiologist will:
- ask about your symptoms and medical history
- examine you and review previous results
- possibly request an ECG, echocardiogram, stress test or blood tests
If catheterization is advised, the team will explain fasting, medicines and arrival time for the procedure day.
What to bring:
- your ID and insurance card
- a full list of your medicines, including blood thinners, diabetes medicines and supplements
- previous ECGs and echocardiogram, stress test, CT and angiography reports, and any stent card
- recent blood tests, especially kidney function
- details of any allergies, particularly to contrast dye, iodine or latex
Questions worth asking:
- Why are you recommending catheterization, and what are the alternatives?
- Will access be through the wrist or the groin?
- If you find a narrowing, could treatment happen in the same session?
- Which of my medicines should I continue or pause, and who will tell me? Do not stop blood thinners or diabetes medicines on your own.
- Will I stay overnight? When can I drive, work, lift or travel?
- Who do I contact if something feels wrong after I go home?
Plan for an adult to come with you on the procedure day and take you home.
Insurance, fees and booking: what to ask before the appointment
Costs for catheterization can involve several parts, so clarify them early. When you book, ask:
- the consultation fee, and whether a follow-up visit within a set period is included
- whether your policy covers the outpatient consultation and the procedure, and whether you need pre-approval (insurers commonly require it for catheterization and stenting)
- whether any estimate covers the procedure, a stent if needed, the hospital stay and medicines
- where the procedure would be performed, since insurer networks can differ between a clinic and the facility doing the procedure
- the doctor's attendance, floor and session time (several profiles recommend confirming these)
Five profiles list Arab Orient Insurance. For the others, ask the clinic which insurers it works with. Get approvals in writing where possible, and keep copies of reports and referral letters.
Getting there
The listed clinics are spread across the capital. Some are in west Amman, in Khalda and Tla' Al-Ali. Others are in the Gardens area and near the 7th Circle, and several are in more central parts of the city. Each card shows its street and building.
Amman's traffic is heavy during morning and afternoon rush hours. Allow extra time, especially if you have fasting or arrival instructions. On the procedure day, do not drive yourself, and arrange a ride home.
Amman's large hospitals are also spread across the city, including Jordan University Hospital, King Hussein Medical Center, Al-Bashir Hospital, Specialty Hospital and Istishari Hospital. In an emergency such as severe chest pain, call 911 rather than travelling to a clinic or driving yourself.
Checklist before you book
- Confirm the clinic publishes the service you need: consultation, tests, diagnostic catheterization or angioplasty and stenting.
- Book by physician name and confirm the doctor's attendance, floor and time.
- Ask where the procedure would be performed and by whom.

- Arrange someone to accompany you on the procedure day.
- Know the warning signs, and call 911 for severe or lasting chest pain.
