Using health insurance with neurologists
Many neurologists in Jordan accept health insurance, and a visit is often covered when the clinic is in your network and you show your membership card. Tests such as a brain MRI, nerve conduction studies or an EEG often need prior approval. Checking this before the appointment can shorten the time to diagnosis and spare you unplanned costs.
Often covered
- Consultations and follow-up for headaches, epilepsy and numbness with network neurologists are often covered.
- Prescribed medicines for epilepsy, migraine and nerve pain fall under chronic medication cover in many policies.
- Many policies cover blood tests linked to nerve symptoms, such as vitamin levels, when the doctor requests them.
- An EEG is often covered when the doctor documents a medical reason for it.
Often excluded, limited or needing approval
- Brain MRI and CT scans often need prior approval from the insurer.
- Nerve conduction studies and some specialised tests may need approval or face a cap under many policies.
- Long rehabilitation programmes after a stroke may be covered for a limited number of sessions under many policies.
- Chronic neurological conditions that predate the policy often face a waiting period or an exclusion.
Check before you book
- Confirm that both the neurologist and the imaging centre doing your MRI are in your network.
- Ask your insurer how long approval for an MRI or nerve study takes and which documents are needed.
- Ask about your co-payment for visits and tests and the limit on chronic medicines.
- Bring your insurance card, ID and previous scans, and ask for an itemised invoice for each test.
General guidance only: what is covered depends on your policy. Confirm with your insurer.
