What is the difference between CGM and FreeStyle Libre sensors?
Continuous glucose monitoring, or CGM, is a device category; FreeStyle Libre is a brand within it. Sensors measure glucose in interstitial fluid, and features vary by model. A finger-stick check may be needed when symptoms do not match readings or the device instructions require it.

Why can sensor and finger-stick results differ?
A finger-stick measures blood glucose, whereas a sensor measures glucose around cells. A lag may appear when glucose changes quickly, including after meals or exercise. A difference does not automatically mean that either device has failed.
Compare the actual model
Ask about alerts, scanning or calibration requirements, phone and pump compatibility, approved age range, wear duration and cost. One model’s specifications do not apply to every device sold under the same brand.
Readings belong within a care plan
Keep a blood glucose meter and supplies as advised. Follow manufacturer instructions for error messages or symptom mismatch, and do not delay emergency treatment for severe low-glucose symptoms while waiting for a sensor. Review patterns with your team rather than making random dose changes.
