Understanding this service

Assessment and options
The clinician selects a shave, punch or excisional biopsy according to the lesion's depth, size and location. Many biopsies take place in an outpatient clinic with local anaesthetic.
Limits and safety
A small scar and wound care may be involved. Follow up the pathology report: its findings guide whether further treatment or testing is needed.
Questions for your consultation
- Which biopsy method is appropriate and why?
- How should I care for the site?
- Who will explain my report and when?
Medical references
This is an educational overview based on the references above. It does not provide a personal diagnosis or treatment plan. Care and local availability must be confirmed with a qualified clinician.
