Root canal treatment saves a tooth damaged by deep decay or pulp inflammation instead of extracting it: the dentist removes the inflamed pulp, cleans and disinfects the root canals, fills them with an inert material, and seals the tooth with a permanent filling or a protective crown. With modern local anesthesia and rotary instruments the procedure is nearly painless and usually completed in one or two visits. In Jordan, the indicative cost typically ranges from 80 to 200 JOD per tooth depending on the number of canals (molars cost more) and whether a crown is needed afterward — a ceramic crown may add 100–250 JOD.
