Are frozen fruits less nutritious than fresh fruit, and are they safe?
Frozen fruit can be nutritious and convenient. Nutrient levels vary by fruit, processing and storage; freezing neither removes all benefits nor always makes fruit superior to fresh produce. Choose products without added sugar and follow storage and preparation instructions.

Compare like with like
Compare unsweetened frozen fruit with similar fresh fruit, rather than a product in sugary syrup. Texture can change after thawing, but this alone does not mean fibre and minerals have disappeared. Variety and regular fruit intake matter more than finding one perfect format.
Freezing does not sterilise food
Viruses can survive in frozen berries. Check whether the package is ready to eat or requires cooking and follow any official recall notice. Do not use a recalled product in a smoothie.
Store as directed and avoid prolonged room-temperature storage. Pregnancy or reduced immunity may require extra food precautions; adding frozen fruit to a smoothie does not automatically establish its safety.
