Sleep Schedule Calculator

Set your wake time to plan sleep opportunity. The tool uses sleep duration, not a fixed 90-minute cycle, and does not guarantee waking refreshed.

Sources last checked: · Educational content based on the sources below

An adult sleep-planning tool, not a test for insomnia or sleep apnoea. It helps reserve sleep opportunity based on age and wake time. Children have different needs, and illness or recovery from sleep deprivation may require an individual arrangement.

How to interpret the readings

Time in bed is not necessarily time asleep. Taking longer to fall asleep or staying awake during the night can reduce actual sleep duration. Daytime sleepiness and repeated awakenings provide information that a calculated bedtime cannot capture.

Method and how to use this calculator

An age-based duration range and your entered time to fall asleep are subtracted from wake time, moving to the preceding day when needed. The planning window uses 7–9 hours for ages 18–64 and 7–8 for ages 65 and older. For ages 18–60, nine hours is not a clinical upper limit: guidance is seven or more.

Bedtime window = wake time − age-based sleep duration range − expected sleep latency (modulo 24 hours)
  1. Set your required wake time and age group.
  2. Enter your usual time to fall asleep, then read the suggested bedtime window for your age group.
  3. Treat the suggested bedtime as an adjustable plan and consider both night-time sleep and daytime functioning.

Limitations and when to seek advice

We do not assume every sleep cycle lasts exactly 90 minutes; the reference describes approximate 80–100-minute cycles that vary through the night. The calculator therefore promises neither waking at a cycle boundary nor deep sleep. Discuss choking with snoring, persistent sleepiness or recurrent difficulty sleeping with a professional.

What matters in Jordan?

Times are local clock times you choose around work or study in Jordan. Duration guidance is international; no established Jordan-specific sleep average is claimed here. Shift work and changing routines need individual planning and cannot be resolved simply by subtracting a fixed number of hours.

Frequently asked questions

Are sleep cycles fixed at 90 minutes?

No. Cycles vary, so clock arithmetic cannot guarantee waking at a cycle boundary.

Is time in bed the same as sleep time?

No. Time to fall asleep and night-time awakenings reduce actual sleep. Sleep quality and daytime sleepiness also matter.
